What did you do?
-I created a google calendar for my month of July.
What did you learn?
-I learned there are different options when using this calendar by google. You can highlight specific dates and have it show for the whole week.
How can you use the new learning?
-You could use this to put up around the room so students can have an idea of what the upcoming month/week has in store.

-I learned that people go to different beaches and do about the same things I do.

-I created a survey about the beach.
What did you learn?
-Only two people took my survey so I really didn't gain a lot of knowledge, but I learned that google forms is really neat to get quick information.
How can you use the new learning?
-Google forms can be used for creating online quizzes, surveys or any type of questions.

Tiny cc / Bitly

I think that our google documents are long so I decided to take my URL from Reading 4 which was

When I went to the website Tiny URL I created a smaller URL.

What did you do?
-I took a large URL and went to tinyurl.com and put it in and it created a smaller tiny url for me.
What did you learn?
-I learned that large url's can be shortened.
How can you use the new learning?
-This is a great tool when you are trying to share websites with other teachers but they are too long to send. You can simply throw in a large url and come out with a short url.

Online Graphing Tools

For this activity I had to go to NAPE website and look at statistics for the last three years and compare the Reading scores of West Virginia to the National Average. Then I created graphs through Excel and Kid's Zone. Kid's Zone website is easy to follow for the most part. In document one you will find the 4th grade reading scores of WV compared to the National Average. In the second document you will find the reading scores in 8th grade from WV compared to the scores of the national average.

What did you do?
-I went to the NAPE websites and look at statistics then create graphs to show the statistics.
What did you learn?
-I learned how to create a graph using the website provided. I have always had some trouble creating graphs using Excel or Word but this was a lot better.
How can you use the new learning?
-You could use this to show test scores compared to other states, in your classroom, or anything to show comparsions.

Zoomerang

I created my survey at Zoomerang.com This was a very fun activity. You could use this in your classroom for many purposes.
What did you do?
-I went to zoomerang.com and created a survey using different types of questions.
What did you learn?
-Only a few people took my survey so I didn't really get to see the results. I learned that you can make this survey as long or short as you want and you can use different types of questions.
How can you use the new learning?
-You could use this after an activity to see what students thoughts were about it.

Blog Poll Gadget

I hope everyone takes a second to take my poll. I am very interested to see everyones thoughts about autism. These polls/surveys I think is a great way to see where people stand. It also lets students see and organize data.

What did you do?
-I went into my blog and added a gadget about the cause of autism.
What did you learn?
-I learned from my blog poll that right now it stands at unknown for the cause of autism according to the people that have taken my poll.
How can you use the new learning?
-You can use a blog poll to find plenty of things out such as what is a students favorite way to learn, what they think their learning styles are, etc.

Word Cloud

I chose to use the ABC's of teaching as my word cloud. I have a lot of fun using this. This could be used for anything. It is neat how it can be created and very colorful. Below you can see how mine turned out. Above is a link to see it also.



What did you do?
-I went to wordle and pasted my words into the box and then it automatically created the word cloud.
What did you learn?
-I learned that you can take any website or any saying and create a word cloud.
How can you use the new learning?
-You could use this for anything. I think it is neat to be able to create a word cloud using any sayings or websites.

I got to do the short video part but uploading it I am having a little trouble. It says I do not have certain programs on my computer but I have tried downloading everything it tells me. I hope that this works. The actual video part was very easy and fun to do. This could be used to help the visual and auditory students do a project.

What did you do?
-Using the same software for the Jing Image, I used this to create a screencast on how to use some techniques for Microsoft Word.
What did you learn?
-I learned how to do a screencast.
How can you use the new learning?
-This can be used in learning in many ways. You could have this up on a computer for students working on an assignment on the computer.

Jing Image

In my class this past year we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and acutally got to do it. My kids loved it, especially when it turned into the butterfly.

What did you do?
-I downloaded the jing software and then I went online and found a graphic of the butterfly life cycle and was able to explain the steps.
What did you learn?
-I learned that you can capture shots of anything on your computer by using the jing software that stays at the top of the computer.
How can you use the new learning?
-You can use this by saving a picture and being able to go back to it and show the students how to do the different steps.

Self Portrait

I had a lot of fun doing this even though I don't think either one look like me. I didn't come across any big issues, just minor things like not be able to pick out the perfect shape face, finding a hair part that didn't make me look fully like a man (since I have short hair). I had my husband create one to look like me and now he is in trouble because he made me look more like a man. Below you will find both of the ones we created. This is the link we used to create them.





What did you do?
-I "tried" creating an image of myself and had my husband create one to using the picassohead.
What did you learn?
-I learned that I got frustrated using this assignment because I couldn't get anything to look like me.
How can you use the new learning?
-This is a fun assignment to see what students see themselves as.

Snipping Tool






What did you do?
-Basically I took a picture of something on my computer using the snipping tool.
What did you learn?
-I learned that I can use the snipping tool to capture pictures on my computer so I can save something.
How can you use the new learning?
-I never knew I could do this until now. This is a really neat tool that you could use when giving directions/instructions to students. You could give step by step directions along with an image for them to understand. I chose this because it is easy to get to all my grad classes in an organized manner.

Diigo - Social Bookmarking

A browser add on makes searching a lot easier and saves lots of time. It is a toolbar button that is a shortcut to search. They can provide multimedia or interactive animations. Examples of these include the ActiveX Controls, browser extensions, browser helper objects, etc. I've used the ActiveX Controls but I really never made much attention to it besides clicking to download it and that was it. The installation went pretty smoothly as far I remember. I would have to say the following would be the closest standard that would deal with this because it shows how we use the technology and be able to transfer over to a blog and share it with others.


What did you do?
-I registered for Diigo and installed it on my computer. Then I started building a library by adding websites each week.
What did you learn?
-I learned that by using this you can have all your most used websites right at hand so its once click away.
How can you use the new learning?
-We can save our most used websites on the computers at school so students can get into the website themselves.

-I learned all about a voki and how much fun it was.
